Alright ladies, I’m going to give it to you straight. This is what casinos don’t want you to know. No matter how many things the casinos offer to give you, their end goal is to get that money. Just like a guy will wine and dine you to get in your pants, a casino will wine and dine you to get in your wallet!

They want to get as much money from you as they possibly can while they have you.

To do that, they will do almost anything to get you to stay in their casino and not go to the next one.

Did you hear that? They will do almost anything… this is the part you need to remember so that we can work the system.

They say it is to show their loyalty to you (sounds familiar), but it’s really because they want you to stay in their casino, because the longer you stay in their casino the more likely you are to spend your money there.

If they give you something for free, it will entice you to come to their casino when you otherwise wouldn’t. If they give you food, it will entice you to stay there instead of leaving the casino.

Think about it. Even the casino itself is designed to keep you in it. They have a spa, food options, entertainment, comped rooms, and why would you want to leave? (Only because you ran out of money right?)

Think about how you feel when you go to your local casino. It’s cool and all but if you’re not winning, it doesn’t really keep you there. Oh wait, you didn’t use your food credit yet, so you should stay and eat. After you eat, you may think, let me try $20 more dollars. Then, once you run out of money, you head out. Once you leave the casino, you’re probably done gambling for the day. You’re probably not going to drive the half hour drive to the next casino to try your luck.

In places like Vegas, they have it down to a science. They entice you with different themes. You go into New York New York which looks like New York City inside, then to Excalibur which looks right out of a fairy tale book, then to Luxor which is like walking back in time to the days of the pyramids. Guess what. The same chain owns all those casinos. MGM is just baiting you to put your money into their machines with a change of scenery. It sure feels like you went to another casino, but really the money you spend is still going to the same bank.

Let’s start here.

No matter what, casinos don’t want you to know that you can leave whenever you want. If you are gambling and you are not having luck at one casino, just go to another one. If you don’t have any nearby, let yourself regroup and give it a break. Go, grab some food and come back with a clear head. Once you are out of the spell of the machine lights and the cheers from the winners, you will have a clear head.

Maybe you are done for the day, maybe you aren’t, but sitting at the same slot machine or table hoping that since you put so much money in that your hit must be coming isn’t going to help. Same can be said if you’re up. If you already had some big hits, especially the machine has already paid out. It probably won’t again for you.

Get up and move girl. Try the other side of the casino or try a different casino. Whatever you do, remember you can leave whenever you want and it’s ok if you leave with your losses instead of spend your whole wallet.

If you’re somewhere like Atlantic City, different casinos are right outside, not even a five minute walk half of the time. The worst thing you can do is sit at the same spot and expect a different result.

If you’ve been to casinos like Foxwoods, Atlantic City, or Las Vegas, you know that you get free drinks when you gamble. Wow, what an awesome perk! However, most people fall into the trap.

Yes ladies, there’s a trap. There’s always a trap where casinos are concerned.

Ever notice how you order a drink and then your waitress disappears? By the time your drink finds you, you’ve already spent $20 on a $3 beer. There’s a reason for that. The casinos don’t want you to know that if they tempt you with free alcohol, you will come and spend your money there. The profit they make on you gambling far surpasses the profit they would make on you buying a cocktail. They also know that you will sit and wait for your drink because it was free and you don’t want to pay for it (even though you kind of are if you keep gambling.)

Ladies, we can work the system. Instead of gambling at the slot machine the whole time the waitress is gone, push the button a couple times at the minimum bet. Order your top shelf cocktail, then wait. When you see them coming back, go ahead and push the minimum bet again. Now, you’ve spend $1 for a $15 cocktail.

There’s no need to chug your drinks either. You can walk between connected casinos with your drink as long as you don’t go outside. In Las Vegas you can walk outside with your drink. You don’t have to hang out at the slot machines either, the bars have games built into them and they count for free drinks too.

Don’t gamble while you are drunk. The casinos don’t want you to know that they are banking on you drinking and losing track of your spendings. The next thing you know, your 50 cent bet will turn into $50 really quick while you wait for your tenth drink. If you just go buy your drink at the bar, you know the $3 beer you buy is going to be $3.

What happens when you do hit? Well ladies, casinos don’t want you to know that you can leave with your winnings. They want you to think you can win more! They want you to think, oh I have casino money to play with now, let me try to win that $100,000! That’s up to you. But, I always at least make sure what I put on the table goes back into my pocket when I win. If I choose to play with casino money, I at least know the money that I originally put on the table or in the machine is in my pocket. Once the casino money is gone, it’s time for me to go. Just don’t get greedy ladies. If you win big, I suggest taking a break and clearing your head. I use a Casino Box that is a mini lock box that easily fits in my purse. I leave the key in my room so that the walk back gives me time to think if I really want to spend what I just won. Take your money and think about your next step.

One vacation, I was given $50 freeplay at The Venetian in Las Vegas as part of the package I had bought to stay there. I could only play it on certain machines so I chose my machine and decided I would spend all $50 in that machine. I hit a $1 bet once, twice, third time, I do not lie, I hit $450! This was back when I was 25 so that was a ton of money to a girl fresh out of college. That $450 reimbursed my plane ticket, hotel room, and gave me $100 extra in spending money. I cashed out then and there, gave it to my friend so that I wouldn’t spend it, and brought it home with me.

I knew myself and knew how casinos work so if I started playing with that money, both me and the casinos knew the money I had just won would be given back to the casino by the end of that night. I stuck to my budget and played with my money I had put aside for that day and once I was out I was out. Sometimes, it’s better to get a free reimbursed vacation than to go for that big hit. You may spend more trying to get to that big hit, just to get reimbursed for what you gambled instead of being smart about your budget. Think about it, how many times have you “won big” just to realize you won your money back that you started with.

You can be smart with your gambling too. Keep in mind that having a players card is a perk. The casinos don’t want you to know that they give you free stuff to tempt you into their casinos. They give you monthly freeplay offers, give away offers, and comped rooms. But, this is all great for us! When you check in, you get to skip the line because you have a loyalty card. You are more likely to get a free room upgrade and even your “resort fees” waived if you have a loyalty card. The higher the card tier the higher the perks.

(Keep in mind to get a higher tier, it means you spend a lot of money at the casino.)

However, if you keep an eye on their apps, they often offer point multipliers and other challenges that higher your tier without you spending a lot more money. You can quickly higher your tier by going to the casino on Tuesday when they are doing 3x tier credits instead of when you were originally planning to go Monday. These are the kinds of perks that work in both your and the casinos benefits.

The casinos also let you use your accumulated points as real cash. You can use it for food, merchandise, souvenirs, and all sorts of things. Whenever you make a purchase in the casino, you can use your card and those dollars get converted to points. It’s almost like you’re getting some of your money back per purchase. In a way, the casino is still getting their money back so it works in both your favors again.

The casino does take care of you for gambling. They advertise that everywhere. So just keep that in mind whenever you are at a casino. Are you using your card? Some people think that there is a tracking system when you use your card. It could be true, but it is public knowledge that the machine is programmed to pay out when it’s going to pay out. Feel free to play with and without your card.

The casinos don’t want you to know that you have control over when to use your players card. If you feel like you have better luck without it, then don’t use it. An attendant may come along and say you have a chance to win something if you are playing with your card in the machine, but who needs to win something if you are hitting on a machine without your card?

One thing I have found for sure, is that if you are playing at a table, you should always present your card. The casino assumes you are spending a lot of money at a table (since the minimum bets are usually a higher amount) so you get tier credits and points faster here than in a slot machine. You could start at a table with $500 and only spend $50 of it, but it goes into the system that you started with $500.

Those points add up and higher tiers get you better comped room offers. Free hotel rooms are a huge perk. Vegas can be a great budget vacation spot if you do it the right way. They give free comped rooms Sunday-Thursday and offer discounted rates Fridays and Saturdays when you belong to their players club. Casinos want you to think it’s a comped room but it’s really not. You still have to pay the “resort fee.” This can range from $35-75 a day depending on which casino you stay at so make sure you check before you book.

You may think that sounds like it’s not really a free room and you’re right, but remember that the “resort fee” always gets charged. If you book a room for $65 a night, that $35-75 “resort fee” a day still gets tacked on to that rate as does taxes and a safety deposit which ranges from $100-300 depending on how long you are staying. So, it’s definitely a perk to get that comped room and save that money.

Besides, you only sleep in your room so why pay a lot? Getting a comped room at one of the fancier hotels can be awesome too! One time, I had booked at The Linq in Las Vegas and they had overbooked so they upgraded me to Nobu Hotel since I had a players card. They comped my whole trip and also waived my resort fees for the inconvenience! With the player’s card, you can have an amazing experience for a budget price!

You can eat on a budget as well. You can use your points you have accumulated! You also tend to get a discount at your casinos that are affiliated with your players card so don’t forget to use it every time you get something.

Casinos don’t want you to know that you can go into a buffet at a lunch rate and also get dinner access. That’s why I say go buffet always. Go in at lunch and get both lunch and dinner for the lunch price. Why pay $50 for a nice steak dinner at a restaurant that just comes with one side dish, when you can have unlimited steak, lobster, crab legs, pasta, pork, salad, sushi etc at a buffet! Why spend money on scallops you may not like at a restaurant, when you can spend a flat rate at a buffet and try anything you want.

At the end of the day, we are going to the casino for them to give us money and they want us to come to the casino so that they can take ours. We are kind of the same at the end of the day if you think of it. So, I say work with them and take advantage of the perks they have to offer.

If you are going to a casino, sure you will give the casino your money but make sure you get rewarded for it if you don’t win some of theirs.
