- Resorts Are Safe!
The best part about staying at a resort during these crazy times is that you are staying in a controlled environment. Unlike going to a city (where some things are open and some things are closed – where every property has its own rules and regulations – and this is all changing on a weekly basis), EVERY step you take on a resort is pre-calculated for your safety. You can have multiple experiences but all on the same property with rules and regulations you research before you go. It’s not a crap shoot when you stay at a resort! You will know exactly what you are getting before you stay there.
From employees wearing masks to hand sanitizer everywhere, you will feel safe the moment you walk onto the property knowing that they are all following the same guidelines. The pool service is the same as the restaurant service is the same as the housekeeping service, etc.
With on site security, you also don’t have to worry about anyone bothering you once you are there. The beaches are public, but beach peddlers cannot come up onto the resort itself.
Upon check-in, we were given the option to have our room changed daily, do limited changes, or to even change our own sheets. Resorts are very flexible with your comfort level in terms of how many people you want to come in contact with. They even offer room service if you would rather eat with limited contact in your room.
When you go for a meal, many resorts are offering contact free menus. You scan the QR Code and pull up the menu on your own phone. They also take your temperature before you enter, have you hand sanitize, and also wipe your shoes on a sanitizer mat. Again, controlled, organized, safe, experiences!
- It's Easy To Social Distance!
Staying at a resort is guaranteed social distancing. Most resorts are only offering limited occupancy. A lot of people are not traveling so their numbers are way down. They may not even have full limited occupancy while you are there!
When I traveled last month, there were only 20 people on the whole property! There was a small surge in guests on Friday and Saturday and it went up to 60. Even with 60 people, do the math. Some couples go to town to shop while others go to eat, etc. It was rare for us all to be at the same place at the same time.
The most people I saw at once was at dinner when they spaced out our reservations. I usually eat for a few hours to try a little bit of everything while I’m at an all- inclusive resort so I saw the waves of guests come through. There was never more than about 15 people in the huge restaurant at once!
- You Don't Have An Issue Getting A Seat!
If you have been to a resort before, you know that pool side seating is prime property. Guests will wake up early and put out a towel on a seat to guarantee they have that spot for the day. I’ve even seen people sleeping in their robes since 4am just to get that prime spot.
You don’t have to do any of that right now! You have the resort to yourself in most instances. You can take a cabana, a chair, a beach seat, or all three at once!
- The Prices Are Crazy Affordable
If you ever wanted to get a great budget vacation, now is the time! Luxury resorts are more affordable than ever. Now is the time to go to that adults-only resort that you couldn’t afford before.
Once you are on property, you will find your money goes a long way. If you stay in a complex like Playacar in Mexico, Playa Del Carmen is just steps away! You can really get some great deals in the city when usually this would be prime tourist season with jacked up prices. So, don’t feel like you need to pay resort prices for suntan lotion or cover ups etc because it’s even cheaper at the souvenir shops in town.
- The Weather Is Perfect!
Playa Del Carmen is in the mid 80’s in March through May. It’s the perfect temperature to walk around and sight see. There’s always a breeze coming fresh off the coast to keep you cool while you’re exploring.
- Most Things Are Open!
Since it’s Mexico and the weather is generally ideal, most restaurants and bars are all open aired. They are all back open with limited capacity. Shopping is also in full effect.
The only major things that closed were some of the night clubs like Coco Bongo, (which is a pretty major closure) but, the one in Cancun is still open!
- Resorts Offer On-Site Testing
Most resorts are offering on-site testing for your return trip. It helps take the hassle out of finding a testing location!
If you do come in contact with the virus, most resorts offer a discounted rate for quarantine. Some even offer a whole section of the resort where you can access a pool and part of their beach.
Keep in mind you can always get an Airbnb or cheaper hotel if you need to quarantine.
- It's Safe To Fly
Airlines are doing a great job of keeping you safe. They have it down to a science. They are also super flexible with any changes you may need to make. Most are offering free refunds or free flight changes!
The process to fly to Mexico was easy. Now they have it so that you fill out all your paperwork online so it’s all taken care of before you even get to the airport!
